Caution on the gathering of Herbs.

        I.            Look-Alike Herbs:
One thing anybody who has taken herbs must note is that often many herbs have look-alike which could be dangerous or even poisonous. Let me relate a personal experience. I once gathered a herb which looked in every way like parquetina nigrescens (ewe ogbo, Yoruba) that I know. This is a herb that builds blood. It is even said that it can replace the need for blood transfusion. To use it for anaemia it is squeezed in water as one squeezed in water as one squeezes bitter leaves. As it is squeezed the water turns blood red. The red too just like the original herb. I took it with milk as usual. Not too long after my tummy was in turmoil. It was a most uncomfortable feeling of heaviness and nausea. I was unable to eat or drink anything at the wedding reception I attended afterward. The herbs gatherer must exercise caution to avoid this kind of mix up. If in doubt ask someone who knows, for example at the herb section of the local market...................................
