Drying of Herbs



Herbs are usually dried away from direct sunlight in order to retain its full potency. So dry your herbs under shades or indoors in an airy room or verandah. Sometimes I place the fresh herbs in a covered wooden box with electric bulb on. This usually dries the herbs very well. Make sure the herbs are well dried to prevent them moulds’. The dried herbs should be wrapped with a clean, dry and light white cotton cloth or plain light paper like news print before placing it in a wide mouth covered bottle
CAUTION ON THE GATHERING OF HERBS.
        I.            Look-Alike Herbs:
One thing anybody who has taken herbs must note is that often many herbs have look-alike which could be dangerous or even poisonous. Let me relate a personal experience. I once gathered a herb which looked in every way like parquetina nigrescens (ewe ogbo, Yoruba) that I know. This is a herb that builds blood. It is even said that it can replace the need for blood transfusion. To use it for anaemia it is squeezed in water as one squeezed in water as one squeezes bitter leaves.
