Yoruba Name: Amuje
The bark of this tree is used traditionally in preparations for building and purifying the blood. It is widely available in the local herb market. It is usually boiled with the stalks of guinea corn (sorghum bicolor) (poroporo, Yoruba) for preparing blood tonic. Harungana is also useful in the traetment of nephrosis (kidney disease), anaemia, malaria, fevers, dysmenorhoea (painful menstruation) and hypertension.
