PILES

Piles or hemorrhoids is a common disease that has many herbal remedies. For bleeding piles squeeze basil (efirin) one handful in a cup of water and drink twice daily. For protruding piles make a ball of macerated fresh efirin and insert. Also one may insert a ball of cotton wool soaked in aloe very gel. Shred and dry young cashew leaves and drink as tea. Cloves (Eugenia aromatica) (kanafuru, Youruba) is an important ingredient in the treatment of piles.
It may be added to other herbs for treating piles. Efirin juice mixed with half teaspoonful of palm kernel oil should be taken twice daily to relieve pile. Anthocleista djalonesis (shapo, Youruba) may also be taken as juice for piles. Asparagus racemosus juice mixed with milk is also good for piles. Other Nigerian herbs used for piles include eso booni, eru Alamo, aayu, epo igi orira, ewe abere. These are all Yoruba names for the herbs. Aloe vera with shea butter allowed to solidify is used externally for piles.
