THYME (Thymus vulgaris)

Common Names: Common garden thyme, mother of thyme.
Part Used: Entire plant
Medicinal properties: Tonic, carminative, emmenagogue resolvent, antispasmodic, antiseptic
Description and Uses: One of the old-time household remedies. Usually used in combination with other herbs. Excellent taken hot for suppressed menstruation. Good in fevers. Will produce profuse perspiration when taken hot. A reliable nervine and excellent for relief of nightmares. Valuable in whooping cough, asthma, and lung troubles. For small children, give small and frequent doses. Good remedy for weak stomach, dyspepsia, gas, gripping, cramps in the stomach, and headache and acts as a mood elevator. Use one ounce of the dry herb to one pint of boiling water. Take two tablespoonfuls two times a day.
Use sparingly. Do not make a habit of using thyme.
