A virus infection which causes a group of spots on an area of inflamed skin. The spots are known as vesicles, and they have white heads containing fluid. There are two types:
Herpes Zoster is the name for Shingles; and another variety Herpes Simplex which develops in areas such as the lips – usually during some other illness e.g. cold. The spots should be kept dry, and can be dabbed with a little surgical spirit from time to time and dusted with talcum powder. They usually disappear in days, and leave no marks.
