MEDICINAL USES OF LEMON GRASS

Botanical Name: Cymbopogon citratus
Yoruba Name: Ewe tea
This is a well known local herb. It is widely used alone or in combination to treat malaria, cough, colds, typhoid, hypertension, bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma. Builds immunity and resistance to diseases. It is often used as a decoction or concoction, or tea. if used as a decoction or concoction bring it to boil until the familiar pleasant fragrance is perceived. Simmer for 3 minutes afterwards and drink hot 3 cups thrice daily. Lemon grass tea has been used traditionally "to soothe headaches, eliminate stress, help relaxation and fight fevers". A proprietary lemon grass tea in teabags branded Dara Dara is now available in the market. I have used this tea and I find it quite refreshing. Lemon grass is easy to cultivate so make sure you have it in your compound.
