DRINKING

The use of alcohol is widespread in civilized communities. Alcohol is mildly poisonous and therefore the more taken the more injurious it will be. In large quantities over a prolonged period it will cause insidious but permanent damage to the brain, and liver. An occasional social drink is not going to harm or shorten life.

Please reserve alcohol for special social occasion and do not allow it to become a daily or solitary habit. Wines are more potent than beer, while spirits such as whisky or gin are highly concentrated and therefore more dangerous. It is, however, possible to get hooked on any of these forms, even the more dilute. Alcohol can get such a grip on an individual that he is unable to do without it, and his health ruined. He will probably need long term skilled treatment in an attempt to break the addiction.
