TREATING RINGWORM

Ringworm is caused by a fugus, or yeast-like organism, which attacks the skin and roots of the hairs. It is contagious and may occur in epidemics, for instance in schools. It commonly affects the hairy skin at the back of the neck, and the infection spreads in a circular fashion, forming a round area which gives the disease its name. Ointments containing anti-fungal drugs are usually effective although tablets (griseofulvin) may be needed in resistant cases.
