Causes: Pressure on the skin from lying too long in one position. The position of a bedridden patient should be changed frequency. If good care is taken of such patients, and they are bathed and turned frequency, they will rarely get bed sores.
Treatment: Hot and cold applications with thorough rubbing will produce good circulation and prevent bed sores, or will greatly relieve them. Make a tea of which hazel and bathe the sores at least three or four times a day. Kloss's liniment is also excellent to heal sores of any kind. If there is any proud flesh, sprinkle it with powdered burnt alum. The best wash for bed sores is made of one teaspoonful each of golden seal, myrrh, and boric acid added to a pint of boiling water. After washing the sore, it should be sprinkled with equal parts of powdered golden seal and myrrh. This will help to neutralize the position and heal the infection, and is very healing. Cover the sore with a bandage saturated with olive oil. Expose the sore to the open air occasionally.
