COLDS
Colds are the most widespread of all infections diseases. The common cold is caused by different kinds of virus. Authorities put the number of virus that can cause colds as more than 120 different viruses. The symptoms are running nose, sore throat, coughing and headache. Colds spread very rapidly in public places and among friends and members of the family. An unprotected sneeze from a fellow bus passenger for example can make people in the bus to develop cold symptoms later, especially those with depressed
immune system. Taking immediate care of yourself when you have cold will help you prevent a more serious illness from developing. Fortunately there are many common herbs that can clear the symptoms quickly and effectively. Such herbs include: lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus), lemon juice, nux vomica and garden spurge ( Euphorbia hirta) ( irawo-ile, Yoruba). Other herbs include alligator, pepper, ginger and garlic. Grate ginger and garlic in a cup and squeeze one lemon into it, add warm water and let stand for about 10-15 minutes. Drink warm, twice daily. Drink decoction of lemon grass and inhale its steam. Chew a few seeds of alligator pepper to clear stuffy nose and catarrh. One formula for cold is: 1 tablespoon of bitter kola powder, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder mixed in 8 tablespoon of honey. Take 1 spoon thrice daily. To treat catarrh and cold grind alligator pepper and dry pawpaw seeds and mixed with honey in equal proportion. Take three tablespoonful twice daily.
