HERBAL TREATMENT FOR COLON CANCER

This terrible disease is becoming rampant in the land. Indeed a very senior colleague died of it some years back. All who knew her and saw her as the disease progressed suffered with her. So much was the suffering and misery that everybody both family and friends breathed a sigh of relief when the disease finally claimed her life. She received the best of medical care in the best hospitals in the land and yet this could not relieve her. This particularly pained me for I knew that there are herbs that could have made the difference. One however felt helpless, as herbs are a taboo in the hospital setting.

Indeed one of the reasons for writing this book is the hope that it will strike a receptive chord in the individual person to help him or her to take advantage of herbal remedies with confidence. The cance most often occurs in the lowerest part of the colon. It may block the colon and cause bleeding especially during elimination. Cancer of the colon is a rather wasting disease. The colleague referred to above became so shrunken in size that it was difficult to recognize her when I visited her in the hospital. A tea made from equal proportion of calendula marigold, Phyllanthus amarus (eyinbisowo, Yoruba) and tropical stinging nettle (Laportea ovalifolia) (ewe esisin, Yoruba) is said to be a herbal remedy of choice. At least two litres of this tea should be sipped throught the day. Cayenne pepper (Capsicum annum) (ata josi, Yoruba) should be infused with the tea. Mistletoe tea (Viscum album) (afomo onisana, Yoruba) and chickweed tea (Stellaria media) (awede, Yoruba) are also beneficial additional teas. Swedish bitters should also be in the armoury as are foreign herbal teas like calamus root and yarrow. A diet rich in fibre is most appropriate for this condition.
